Legendary blues pianist Reverend Billy C. Wirtz joins “Inside Jackson Station,” host Dan Harrison to talk about his life as a comedic performer, a pianist, a musicologist, and DJ.
We hear Billy’s recollections of playing at Jackson Station both as a solo act and with Bob Margolin and Nappy Brown over the years. The Reverend explains what it was like touring and performing with Nappy Brown and the unique scene that Gerald Jackson and Steve Bryant created at the club. Billy shares wisdom about the blues from artists such as Muddy Waters, Little Walter Jacobs, and Otis Spann before concluding with a homily about gospel music, the blues, and existentialism. And of course, we hear some cool sounds from the Master of the 88 Key Disaster along the way.
